The studio behind the tools

Novus Stream Solutions is the small Canadian studio, based in London, Ontario, behind NSS Background Remover and the wider kit of browser-based image and video tools on this site. We build software with one unusual constraint: everything, including the AI models, runs on your device rather than on our servers. That single decision shapes most of what you’ll read in this section, from what our privacy policy is able to promise to what an “outage” even means on the status page.

Start with About for the short version of who we are and why the tools are free: the product is ad-supported, the models are open source, and processing happens in your browser, so there are no per-image server costs to pass on to you. Our story (linked from the About page) goes deeper into how the project started and the True Alpha Promise, the export-quality bar every tool has to clear before it ships.

If you’re deciding whether to rely on the platform for daily work, the Changelog and Roadmap are the honest signals: the changelog records exactly what shipped in each release, and the roadmap sorts upcoming work into now, next, and later so you can see whether a missing feature is actually planned. The Statuspage reports service health, though because processing is local, most incidents only affect page delivery and model downloads, never files you’re already editing.

Writers and reviewers can pull logos, screenshots, and brand guidance from the Press kit.
