No. The AI models download once to your browser (from a public CDN) and all processing happens locally. Your image never leaves your device.

What's the difference between 2× and 4×?

2× doubles width and height using the Swin2SR AI model. For 4× you can enable Real-ESRGAN — a true single-pass ×4 model that is noticeably crisper (one-time ~66 MB download, cached in your browser). If you keep the standard option, 4× uses a two-pass Swin2SR cascade instead, which also runs automatically as a fallback whenever Real-ESRGAN can't load.

What formats can I export?

Always lossless PNG, which preserves every detail the upscaler adds. You can convert to WebP or JPEG using the Format Converter tool after.

Will it work on large images?

Yes. Large images are split into overlapping tiles, each processed sequentially. You'll see a real-time progress estimate during processing.
