Video Metadata Remover

Strip all embedded metadata from video files before sharing — creation timestamps, GPS location, encoder chain, camera model, and software strings. Works by re-muxing through the browser, which never preserves container metadata. Your video never leaves your device.

Strip creation dates, GPS coordinates, and encoder info before sharing your video

How it works

  • Drop an MP4, WebM, or MOV video file — no upload to any server
  • The browser re-muxes the video through its built-in codec pipeline, which discards all container-level metadata during re-encoding
  • Download the clean output — same video and audio content, all metadata fields stripped

Frequently asked questions

What metadata is removed?

Creation timestamps, GPS coordinates, camera or phone model, encoder/software strings, and any other container-level metadata tags. The tool strips everything the browser re-mux exposes — typically all common metadata categories.

Does removing metadata change the video quality?

No. The tool re-muxes the existing encoded video stream — it does not re-compress or transcode the pixel data. Quality is identical to the source.

Why remove metadata before sharing a video?

Videos recorded on phones embed GPS coordinates (exact location), device model, and recording date/time in the file. Sharing without stripping this data reveals your location and device. Metadata removal protects your privacy.

What format is the output?

WebM (VP9) in most browsers. To convert to MP4, pass the output through the Video Format Converter tool.

Repackage the stream without carrying its hidden history

A clean remux removes container-level creation, location, and encoder fields while leaving the visible and audible streams unchanged where possible.

No visual filter

01

Container cleaned

Unwanted metadata is not copied into the new output container.

02

Media preserved

The operation avoids a visual transformation when the input/output stream contract allows it.

03

Preview before share

Play the cleaned file and continue directly into the Video Editor.

Know before you process: Spoken names, signs, faces, and visible locations are content, not metadata, and remain in the clip.
