Step-by-step guide

Take a well-lit photo
Natural light and a contrasting background — light fur on a dark background or dark fur on light — gives the AI the best chance at capturing fine fur detail.

Switch to Best Quality mode
Click the model selector and choose Best Quality (RMBG-2.0). It's slower to download on first use (~180 MB) but handles fur significantly better.

Upload and wait
Drop your photo onto the upload zone. Processing takes a bit longer in Best Quality mode — typically 5–15 seconds on WebGPU.

Review fur edges closely
Zoom in to 100% and check fine fur tips. Use the Restore brush (soft, low opacity) to bring back any whiskers or tail-tip detail that was cut.

Export and create
Export transparent PNG and drop into Canva or your favourite design app. Create your custom portrait, sticker, or card.
Common questions
Will it get individual whiskers?
Very fine whiskers are challenging for any AI model. Best Quality mode handles them better than Fast mode, but extremely fine, backlit whiskers may need manual restoration with the brush tool at low opacity.
My dog's fur matches the background colour — will it work?
Similar-coloured fur and background is the hardest case for any background removal tool. Shoot in good lighting with as much contrast as possible, and expect to use the brush for touch-ups.
Are my pet photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your photos never leave your browser. All AI processing happens locally on your device.
What's the best background for photographing pets?
A plain, solid-coloured backdrop that contrasts with your pet's fur. Light grey or white for dark-fur pets; dark grey or black for light-fur pets. A large piece of poster board works perfectly.
