Poster-ready cut-outs at print resolution — verified straight alpha

Large-format transparent exports for poster, billboard, and event design. Free.

The problem

Poster and large-format print design requires full-resolution transparent assets with correct straight alpha and preserved colour profiles. Most background removal tools either cap resolution, produce premultiplied alpha that ghosts at print, or lose the ICC profile that your RIP needs.

The NSS solution

NSS processes up to 4096 × 4096 px, exports verified straight alpha with ICC profile preservation, and produces PNG suitable for large-format production workflows. Free and unlimited.

How to use it

  • 1

Artist and performer cut-outs for event posters

Extract performers and artists from press photos for concert posters, festival programmes, and event banners.

  • 2

    Product cut-outs for large-format ads

Full-resolution product cut-outs for billboard ads, transit posters, and large-format retail display.

  • 3

Transparent subject layers for poster composites

Cut subjects from reference photos to use as transparent overlay layers in poster compositing workflows.

  • 4

Movie and show promotional art assets

Transparent talent assets for movie poster and show promotional composites.

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

    Upload at maximum resolution

NSS handles up to 4096 × 4096 px at full quality. For large-format print, upload the highest resolution source available.

  2. 2

    Use Best Quality mode

Print-destined assets need the best possible edge quality. RMBG-2.0 produces noticeably superior results for final production work.

  3. 3

Check and refine edges at 100%

Zoom to 100% in the editor to inspect edges at pixel level. Use Edge Refinement's Feather (1–3 px) for natural-looking edges in composite work.

  4. 4

    Verify alpha integrity

Export PNG and confirm the green alpha integrity checkmark. Any premultiplied alpha in a large-format production file is a costly mistake.

Common questions

Will the alpha integrity check catch premultiplied alpha before I include it in production?

Yes. The check decodes the export and verifies alpha values at semi-transparent edges before the file downloads. Green checkmark = safe for production.

Is 4096 px enough for large-format print?

At 300 DPI, 4096 px = 13.6 inches. For large-format billboard work (where viewing distance is large), this is often sufficient at reduced DPI. For high-resolution retail print up close, start from the highest-resolution source file available.

What happens to images larger than 4096 px?

They're downscaled to 4096 for inference, then the mask is upscaled back to the original dimensions. The exported file is always at the original input resolution — not capped at 4096.

Is this free for commercial print production work?

Yes. Free, unlimited, no restrictions on commercial use.
