Real-time virtual background — no green screen, no OBS plugin

AI webcam background removal directly in your browser. Works on Chrome and Edge.

The problem

Virtual backgrounds in Zoom and Teams look blurry and glitch around your hair. OBS plugins require setup, system resources, and often produce visible artifacts. A physical green screen means dedicated space, even lighting, and time to set up before every stream.

The NSS solution

The NSS Live Camera tool applies AI background removal to your webcam feed in real time, at 10 fps, entirely in your browser. Share the browser tab as your camera source in OBS or stream directly. No install, no plugin, no server.

How to use it

  • 1

Virtual background without a green screen

Open the Live Camera tool, select your webcam, and the AI isolates you from your background at 10 fps. Use a solid colour or upload a custom background image.

  • 2

    Professional-looking video call backgrounds

Share the NSS browser tab as a virtual camera in Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet using OBS Virtual Camera or the browser's built-in screen share.

  • 3

Create stream overlays with transparent backgrounds

Use the Image Background Remover on your emotes, logos, and alert graphics to create overlay assets with true transparency.

  • 4

Custom Discord emoji from your face or character

Upload a reaction face photo or character image into the Emoji Creator. Remove the background, adjust corner radius and padding, and download in all sizes (16px to 512px).

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

    Open Live Camera

Go to /live-camera. Click "Start Camera" and allow browser access to your webcam.

  2. 2

Wait for the AI to load

The RMBG model downloads once (~30MB). After first load, it runs locally on your device.

  3. 3

    Choose your background

Select a solid colour or upload a custom background (your stream branding, a set image, etc.).

  4. 4

    Share as virtual camera

In OBS: use Browser Source pointed at the tab, or use Window Capture. The processed feed updates at ~10 fps.

  5. 5

    Adjust positioning if needed

If the edges are rough, the AI works best with good subject-background contrast and even lighting on your face.

Common questions

What frame rate does the Live Camera run at?

Approximately 10 fps on WebGPU (Chrome/Edge). WASM fallback runs at 2–4 fps. This is suitable for video calls and casual streaming but may look choppy for fast movement.

Does it work in Firefox or Safari?

The live camera uses WebGPU for inference, which is currently supported in Chrome and Edge. Firefox and Safari use WASM fallback, which is slower.

How do I use it as a virtual webcam?

Share the browser tab via OBS Browser Source or Window Capture, then set OBS Virtual Camera as your input in streaming software or video call apps.

Does my webcam feed get uploaded anywhere?

Never. All AI inference runs locally in your browser. Your webcam footage never leaves your device.
