Free Tool
Apply cinematic color grades to video clips — 8 LUT presets, browser-only
8 cinematic presets with intensity control. No DaVinci Resolve, no LUT import, no upload.
The problem
Applying a cinematic colour grade to video traditionally requires DaVinci Resolve (complex learning curve) or Premiere Pro (expensive subscription). LUT files require manual import and compatibility checking. Most free online colour grading tools upload your video to cloud servers.
The NSS solution
NSS Video Filter applies 8 built-in LUT presets — Sepia, Faded Film, High Contrast, Vignette, Cool Mist, Warm Glow, Night Vision, and Cross Process — directly in the browser using frame-by-frame canvas processing. Adjust intensity with a slider and download the result as WebM. No upload, no DaVinci, no LUT import.
How to use it
- 1
Cinematic grade for social media video
Apply Faded Film or Cool Mist to talking-head clips, travel footage, or product demos before posting to Instagram Reels, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts.
- 2
Consistent visual style across a video series
Apply the same preset and intensity to every episode of a video series for a consistent colour signature without manual per-clip colour correction.
- 3
Warm grade for product and lifestyle video
Warm Glow and High Contrast add depth and warmth to product demonstration videos and lifestyle B-roll without warming up skin tones excessively.
- 4
Night Vision and Cross Process for creative content
Night Vision and Cross Process create stylised looks for music videos, creative projects, or horror and thriller content.
- 5
Grade after background removal
Apply a filter after the Video Background Remover step to ensure the subject and replacement background share the same colour grade for a unified, professional result.
Step-by-step guide
- 1
Upload your video clip
Go to /video-filter and drop your MP4 or WebM file. Short clips under 60 seconds process most quickly.
- 2
Choose a preset
Click through the 8 preset buttons: Sepia, Faded Film, High Contrast, Vignette, Cool Mist, Warm Glow, Night Vision, Cross Process. A thumbnail preview updates for each selection.
- 3
Adjust intensity
Use the intensity slider to blend between the original clip and the full preset effect. 50–70% intensity is a good starting point for a subtle, professional grade.
- 4
Process and preview
Click Apply Filter. The tool processes each frame using canvas image manipulation. A progress indicator shows completion. Once done, the result plays back in the browser.
- 5
Download the graded clip
Click Download to save the graded WebM. Convert to MP4 using HandBrake or FFmpeg if your platform requires it.
Common questions
What do LUT presets actually do to the video?
A LUT (Look-Up Table) maps each input colour value to an output colour value. Faded Film, for example, lifts the shadows slightly, reduces saturation, and adds a mild warm tint — all by remapping the RGB values of each pixel in every frame. The result is a colour grade applied consistently across the whole clip.
How is this different from the Image Filter tool?
The Video Filter tool processes video clips frame by frame, producing a graded WebM. The Image Filter tool applies the same presets to still images and exports PNG, WebP, or JPEG. The underlying presets are identical.
Does re-encoding reduce clip quality?
The filter is applied using canvas processing and the output is re-encoded as VP9 WebM. VP9 at the default quality setting preserves the visual quality of the source. There is always a minor generation loss when re-encoding, but it is not visible at standard viewing sizes.
Can I apply a filter after removing the background?
Yes — and this is recommended. Process your clip through Video Background Remover first, then open the WebM output in Video Filter. This ensures the grade applies to both the subject and the replacement background equally.
