Features
Live camera background removal
Real-time webcam background removal at up to 10 fps — no virtual camera driver or software install needed.
How it works
The live camera tool accesses your webcam via the browser's getUserMedia API, runs AI background removal on each frame at up to 10 fps, and renders the result onto a canvas in real time.
No virtual camera driver is required. The canvas output can be screenshotted or (on supported systems) captured by screen-sharing software.
Setting up
- Go to the Live Camera tool
- Click Start camera — your browser will ask for camera permission
- Allow access when prompted
- The processed feed appears after the AI model loads (~5–15 seconds on first use)
Background options
- Transparent — subject on a checkerboard (no background)
- Solid colour — pick any colour to appear behind the subject
- Blur — the live camera feed blurred behind the subject
Performance tips
- Chrome on a machine with WebGPU gives the best frame rate (~10 fps)
- Firefox and Safari use WASM — expect 2–5 fps
- Ensure good lighting — the AI works best with clear contrast between subject and background
- Sit at least 50cm from the camera for better depth separation
Using the live feed as a virtual background
The processed canvas is not directly usable as a virtual camera in Zoom/Meet without additional software (e.g., OBS with a virtual camera plugin). However, you can:
- Share your browser tab in a video call to show the processed feed
- Screenshot the canvas at any time with the Capture frame button
