Lifestyle Product Photography — From Plain Shot to Scene

A practical guide to making lifestyle product photos that convert, using AI background removal + scene templates.

The workflow

  1. Upload a plain product shot (white background is easiest, but any background works).
  2. The tool removes the background with AI.
  3. Pick a scene template — 14+ options including marble, oak tabletop, dark slate, kitchen counter, coffee shop, linen shelf, kraft paper, and more.
  4. The 6-pass blending engine runs automatically: colour temperature match, edge feather, contact shadow, AO rim, surface reflection, vignette.
  5. Export as PNG, WebP, or AVIF at full resolution.

Choosing a scene template

Match the scene to your product category and target customer:

  • Marble studio — premium beauty, jewellery, watches, perfume. Conveys luxury.
  • Oak tabletop — kitchenware, food adjacents, artisan goods, gifts. Warm and approachable.
  • Dark slate — tech, men's grooming, gourmet. Conveys edge and quality.
  • Kitchen counter — cookware, ingredients, recipe-adjacent products. Contextual.
  • Coffee shop — beverages, baked goods, work-from-home gear. Casual lifestyle.
  • Powder pink / pastel — beauty, kids, fashion accessories. Soft brand voice.
  • Linen shelf — home decor, soft goods, candles. Cosy.
  • Outdoor concrete — industrial design, eco brands, modern minimalism.
  • Kraft natural — handmade, artisan, sustainable, packaging-forward brands.

The 6-pass blending engine

Naively placing a product cutout on a scene looks fake. The blending engine runs 6 passes to make the composite look photographed in-scene:

  1. Colour temperature match — shifts the product's white balance to match the scene's lighting.
  2. Edge feather — softens the mask boundary so the product doesn't look cut out with scissors.
  3. Contact shadow — adds a darker shadow directly under the product where it meets the surface.
  4. AO rim — ambient occlusion darkening at object edges where they meet the surface.
  5. Surface reflection — for marble / dark slate scenes, generates a faint mirror reflection under the product.
  6. Vignette — subtle global darkening at the edges to focus attention on the product.

Each pass is adjustable via sliders in the editor — you can dial up shadow strength for dramatic shots or dial it down for product-only emphasis.

Platform-specific export

  • Amazon — white background main image required; lifestyle photos as "additional images". Export at 2000×2000 px for zoom support.
  • Shopify — 2048×2048 px max, square aspect ratio works best for product grid.
  • Etsy — first image is your hero; 2000 px on the long edge minimum.
  • Instagram — 1080×1080 (square) or 1080×1350 (4:5 portrait) for highest engagement.
  • Pinterest — 1000×1500 (2:3) is the proven viral aspect ratio.
