Screenshot isolation with transparent backgrounds — no Photoshop selection
Remove UI backgrounds, desktop chrome, and screen clutter from screenshots. Export clean app window PNGs for mockups and presentations.
The problem
Isolating an app window or UI element from a screenshot in Photoshop requires careful use of the Magic Wand, Quick Selection, or Pen tool — especially when the window shadow or background matches the UI colours. Most free tools struggle with the sharp geometric edges of software interfaces.
The NSS solution
NSS Screen Capture Background Remover applies AI segmentation optimised for the structured, high-contrast edges typical of app screenshots. Upload your screenshot, the AI isolates the app window or UI element, and you download a transparent PNG ready for use in presentations, mockups, or marketing materials.
How to use it
- 1
App window isolation for product marketing
Remove the desktop background from a screenshot of your SaaS product or mobile app. Place the isolated window over a brand gradient or lifestyle photo for marketing materials.
- 2
UI mockups for design presentations
Extract individual UI components or screen states from screenshots and composite them into device mockups in Figma, Sketch, or PowerPoint.
- 3
Presentation slide visuals
Isolated app screenshots with transparent backgrounds can be placed directly onto any coloured slide without the white rectangle that breaks visual design.
- 4
Tutorial and documentation images
Remove the desktop or browser chrome from instructional screenshots so only the relevant UI element appears on the documentation page or help article.
- 5
macOS and Windows drop shadow removal
macOS window screenshots include a drop shadow. NSS can isolate the window content itself, removing both the desktop background and the drop shadow for a clean result.
Step-by-step guide
- 1
Upload your screenshot
Go to /screen-capture and drop your screenshot PNG or JPG. High-DPI (Retina) screenshots give the best edge quality.
- 2
AI removes the background
The AI isolates the app window or UI element from the surrounding desktop, taskbar, or browser chrome. Processing takes 2–5 seconds.
- 3
Refine if needed
Open in the Image Editor to use the brush tool on any missed areas. The Magic Eraser works well for flat-coloured background regions.
- 4
Use in slide or design
Download the transparent PNG and paste it directly into PowerPoint, Keynote, Figma, or your image editing software.
- 5
Batch process multiple screenshots
Need to process 10 or 20 screenshots? Use the Batch Processor — upload all at once, export all as a ZIP of transparent PNGs.
Common questions
Does it work best on light or dark backgrounds?
The AI handles both, but performs best when there is clear contrast between the app window and the background. Screenshots taken with a plain desktop wallpaper (solid colour or gradient) give the cleanest results.
Can I process screenshots with multiple windows open?
The AI will attempt to isolate all distinct foreground elements. If multiple windows are open, the result may include all of them. For precise single-window isolation, crop the screenshot to show only the target window before uploading.
How does macOS drop shadow handling work?
macOS adds a drop shadow when you screenshot a window with Command+Shift+4 then Space. NSS's AI treats this shadow as background and removes it. If you want to keep the shadow, apply it artificially in your design tool after isolation.
What is this tool best used for?
It excels at product marketing screenshots, tutorial imagery, presentation slides, and UI mockups. It is not designed for fine art or photography — use the standard Background Remover for those.
