Step-by-step guide

Go to /video-bg-remove and drag in your MP4, WebM, or MOV file. Clips up to a few minutes work well; shorter clips under 60 seconds process most quickly.

Choose a model
Select Fast (RMBG-1.4) for speed or Best Quality (BiRefNet) for complex edges, hair, and transparent materials. Best Quality takes roughly twice as long per frame.

Pick Transparent, a solid colour, Bokeh Blur (blurred original), or upload a custom background image. The preview updates as each frame is processed.

Process and monitor progress
Processing runs frame by frame with an ETA indicator. A thumbnail preview updates every 10 frames so you can spot any issues early.

Common questions
How long does processing take?
On WebGPU (Chrome/Edge), expect roughly 1–3 seconds per frame. A 10-second clip at 30 fps takes approximately 5–15 minutes. WASM fallback is slower — around 5–10× — and is used automatically if WebGPU is unavailable.
What is the maximum clip length?
There is no hard cap, but clips over 60 seconds may consume significant browser memory. For long clips, consider splitting them into shorter segments first.
When does it use WebGPU vs WASM?
WebGPU runs in Chrome and Edge on supported GPUs and is significantly faster. WASM runs in any browser as a fallback. The tool detects and selects the best available backend automatically.
What output format should I use for Instagram?
Instagram requires MP4. Export the WebM from NSS, then re-encode to MP4 using HandBrake (free desktop app) or FFmpeg. The re-encode adds only seconds for short clips.
